Antidumping as a measure of trade protection is more and more usedby the WTO members as a result of its nominal rationality. China as thelargest exporter in the world has become the victim of antidumping. Hence,Antidumping becomes a hot topic in the academic research. However, withthe development of international trade theory and practice, a new trend ofresearch about international trade based on the perspective of productivityhas been appeared. For the purpose of that, this paper studies the impact onthe productivity of the antidumping against China. This paper firstly reviews some history research achievements, andmakes some statistics analysis on the current situation of the antidumpingagainst China. Then we theoretically analyze the transmission mechanismbetween antidumping and productivity. According to the difference of firmproductivity, we divide the firms into different types and analyze theimpact under the pressure of antidumping. Then this paper utilizes the firmdata collected from2002to2009and dynamic panel GMM to research the impact on the firm-level productivity exerted by the U.S antidumpingagainst Chinese export firms. This paper divides the total factorproductivity (TFP) into efficiency change and technical change using dataenvelopment analysis. According to the regression results, we find that theantidumping initiated by foreign states could improve the total factorproductivity significantly. However, the efficiency change and thetechnical change experience an inversed trend. Antidumping boosts theefficiency change and blocks the technical change. In another word, efficiency change contributed most to the improvement of total factorproductivity. We also draw a conclusion that antidumping initiations haveno significant influence on the firm productivity in the long term. In themeantime, we test the theoretical analysis and empirical analysis through acase study. We hope that this paper could provide some useful references for thefuture research, and some theoretical support for the export-firms to see thebright side from the antidumping.
