Party and government continue to raisethat the new urbanization is thegreatest potential motivation to promote sustained and healthy economicdevelopmentin the eighteen congress, which makes the research of the level ofurbanization necessary.In this paper, all the datacome from the " China City Statistical Yearbook2012" and " China Statistical Yearbook2012", which are the statistics in2011, of which26selectedurban development indicators, including economicdevelopment,urban construction, social development, living leveland livingenvironment.We use statistical methods in generalto make our rankings on thelevel of urban development about the288prefecture-level city, and have arelatively simple analysisfor the level of urban development of the nationaltypical city.In the comparison of methods, the Cluster Analysis Method givesclassification according to a specific defineddistance. In this paper, the resultsare a relatively vague clustering because of too many indicators. The PrincipalComponent Analysis tries to extract themain components impacting the level ofthe urban development. In this paper we extract eight principal componentswhose explaining ratio is71.78%. The Factor Analysis starts from the everyfactor of the certain city. We extract10factors in this paper, whose explainingratio reaches63.9%.The Entropy Method makes internal differences in the26indicators as a standard to quantify the weight of each index and score each city’s developmentlevel to get the final result. The results and conclusions aremainly based on the Factor Analysis.There are eight main components: economical scale, urban constructionand medical services, the tertiary industry and green plant, the number ofcollege and living garbage treatment, the city GDP, public services,environmental indicators and urban roads area, science and technologyindicators.We extracted10factors arranged as follows: public welfare, economicinfrastructure, public facilities, personnel quality, population density, educationexpenses, staff income, health care, environmental factors, urban construction. The highest score of Factors Analysis is Zhuhai, and the lowest is Longnan.In the public welfare, the minimum is Ordos, the maximum Dongguan. While inthe economy and public facilities, the minimum is Dongguan, the maximumOrdos. In the public facilities, the minimum is Zhongshan, themaximumShenzhen.In the urban construction, the average value of the Shanghaiis the minimum, and the maximum is Ordos.In the Entropy Method, the first10index weights accounted for78.424%,while the smallest proportion of10indicators is only7.117%, which makesmore than10times’ differences, indicating that the internal differences ofafter10indicators are small.Overall, the top development level cities’economic development, socialdevelopment, education,inhabitant living, living environment and so on have ahigher overall score.According our ranking, index ranking quite different indifferent cities, which indicates the level ofurbanization is very uneven.
