Since the21st century, the world economic situation becomes more complicated, and themarket environment becomes complicated too.“How do organizations survive in the face ofchange?” Underlying this question is a debate between two viewpoints(adaptation versusselection)which has evolved into an attempt to understand, both theoretically and empirically, under what conditions some organizations sustain their competitive advantage in the face ofenvironmental transitions while others do not. In this process, the enterprise competitiongradually enters into strategic capability era of competition. The traditional capability research has existed following faults:(1) Capabilities areusually interpreted as learned and stable patterns of collective concepts, thus the role ofindividuals in organization is nelected in a large extent. Accordingly, some factors such asindividual cognition and action may be interpreted as a result that driven by organizationalroutines and capabilities;(2) Following evolutionary economics and the Carnegie tradition oforganization research, former organizational capabilities research emphasizes the role playedby experiential learning which is routine-centered and based on performance feedback in theevolution of capabilities. This is an experience-based logics and it overlook the influences ofcognitive logics of action to a large degree. It is less likely, however, that experience-basedlogics of action alone could adequately explain the development and evolution of strategiccapabilities, especially because the intrinsic definition of dynamic capabilities hints that theirrole is in overcoming the experiential forces the could lead to obsolescence of a firm’scapabilities.“where are firm’s capabilities come from and how its develop and evolve?” Inorder to answer this basic question of capability research, it is necessary to extend researchdomain from macro to micro and further delve into the micro-level orgin of individualcognition and action that lead to capability heterogeneity and interaction mechanism betweenfirm-level factors and individual-level factors. This paper, based on the strategic capability theory, establishes top manager’scognition---corporate strategy capability---enterprise performance theoretical model. Therefore, according to the research of basic problems, this paper mainly focuses on thefollowing three major issues:(1) Undering highly complex and dynamic environment, topmanager’s cognition is how to influence the corporate strategy capability by what means and mechanism.(2) In this dynamic environment, the enterprise strategy capability canpromote the improvement of enterprise performance;(3) top manager’s cognition can directlyinfluence on corporate performance, or through strategic capability on firm performance hasindirect effect. In this paper, through questionnaires, correlation analysis and regression analysis, themain research conclusions as follows:(1) The top manager’s cognition influences thedevelopment and evolution of corporate strategy capability, and top managers who have moredegree of cognitive flexibility and cognitive complexity may be inclined to develop firm-levelstrategy capabilities in order to cope with environmental changes.(2) strategic ability indeedhave a positive role in promoting performance.(3) the top manager’s cognition cannot directlyeffect performance, but combining strategic ability to adapt and enterprise organizationallearning ability, can really improve the performance of the enterprise, to promote thelong-term development of the enterprise.
