Marx’s theory of distribution according to work was put forward in the "Critique of the Gotha Program" in 1875. Just because of its criticism and negation of class exploitation and oppression, as well as its emphasis and pursuit of fair income distribution, the theory of distribution according to work was widely accepted and Applicated by the socialist countries. After a long period of exploration and practice, Chinese system of distribution according to work has already occupied the dominant position in the income distribution system, the theory of distribution according to work has also obtained the development and deepening in practice, but it is undeniable that distribution according to work system still be imperfect in China.Through reviewing the formation and development of Marx’s theory of distribution according to work, comparing the present status of distribution according to work with the theory, this paper aims to illustrate the problems such as lack of subject status, poor enforcement, faultiness of social security existing in the system of distribution according to work in contemporary China, and put forward the practical way of improving the system of distribution according to work.This paper point out that, in the primary stage of socialism, to improving the system of distribution according to work, government must adhere to and improve the system of distribution according to work, correctly handle the relationship between the distribution according to work and pressing allocation of factor of production, the labor income and the national income, the distribution according to work and the social security, the government administrative expenses and the social security spending.
