With the accelerated development of urbanization and regional economic integration, the interaction between cities gradually strengthens, urban economic agglomeration plays more and more significant role in increasing urban and regional productivity. As a major strategy to achieve regional economic integration, the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt has not only strengthen the economic interaction of west areas, but also provides a new opportunity for promoting the urban economic agglomeration and the regional coordinate development of Gansu province. Therefore,it has important significance in promoting regional coordinate development,to reveal current situation of regional economic clusters and its driving forces.Based on the analysis and summary of the previous literatures and interrelated theory, this paper firstly explores the characteristics of urban economic agglomeration of 12 cities and 2 Autonomous Prefectures in Gansu province from the perspective of externality.
