Nowadays, the increasing serious resource, energy and environment problems have attracted the attention of governments and enterprises, and they are seeking the sustainable development path. Especially the development of auto industry has caused some environmental problems. As a kind of green industries, remanufacturing industry can save materials and energy and reduce the cost. However, remanufacturing industry in China is still at the initial stage, and the current remanufacturing time is usually at the product’s end of life. This way of remanufacturing can give full play to the use of product in the first life cycle, but it increases the difficulty of remanufacturing. Therefore, some factors should be considered to choose the appropriate time for remanufacturing.After analyzing the current situation of the development of remanufacturing industry both in China and abroad, this dissertation puts forward the research topic combined with related theories and literature. Based on the background of the heavy truck engine industry, it establishes models using the method of life cycle cost and the theory of technological economics. First, this dissertation identifies and divides the life cycle stages of the heavy truck engine, and the whole life cycle cost of the engine is broken down into the original manufacturing cost, the running cost of the new engine, the remanufacturing cost, the running cost of the remanufactured engine and the net cost of scrap disposal. Based on this, this dissertation establishes the whole life cycle cost breakdown structure of the heavy truck engine. Then the cost of each stage is estimated by using a variety of cost estimation methods and the cost estimation model is established. After that, it puts forward the index of the whole life cycle average cost of the heavy truck engine. Next, using the existing research on the life cycle assessment of the heavy truck engine, the environmental emissions impact in the whole life cycle stages of the engine is converted into environmental cost. Thus the economic impact and the environmental impact of the engine are combined, and the index of the comprehensive average cost of the heavy truck engine based on life cycle cost and environmental cost is established. This index can identify the optimal remanufacturing time point of the engine more comprehensively. Finally, taking one heavy truck engine as an example, by estimating its life cycle cost and environmental impact, this dissertation chooses four time points to conduct index curve fitting analysis according to the average cost of different remanufacturing time points. It is concluded that the heavy truck engine theoretical optimal remanufacturing time point based on life cycle cost is2.82years, and the conclusion using the method based on life cycle cost and environmental cost is similar. These results will give enterprises to carry out the heavy truck engine remanufacturing work some enlightenment and guiding significance.
