Enterprise is the main body of national economy, firm’s growth is related to a country’s economic’s prosperity and stability, and it is a great concern to internal and external stakeholders.The past firm growth theory, focuses on the influence of external environment and internal resources, such as ability, knowledge and system elements on firm growth, they relatively neglected the connection of external environment and internal factors——, firm’s leaders and important influence of their personality and behavior on the firm growth, especially not considering its role in the dynamic evolution of firm growth situation.This research adopts the classic big five personality model of organizational behavior to test leaders’personality, and combining the reality of Chinese enterprises with Adizes’s corporate life cycle theory,,we put firms into initial, growth period,.mature period, decline phase, and regeneration, and creatively use Adizes’s theory of PAEI management role to develop PAEI leadership behavior scale to measure the leadership behavior.According to the statistical analysis analysis based on emprical research from202firm leaders in different industries, we have the following conclusions:Leaders’s extraversion and conscientiousness have significantly positive effect on firm growth outcomes;Leaders’PAEIbehaviors are all significantly positive to firm growth;Leaders’ PAEI leading behavior mediate the relationship between big five personality and firm growth.In each period, different personalities and behaviors have different impact on firm growth outcome.In this article, we put personality, behavior and results together,which enrichs the perspective of firm growth, and extents the theory of leadership behavior;by dynamic empirical verification of the leader’s personality and corporate life cycle, we provide a good guidance significance to those which want to obtain great firm growth outcome by choosing right leaders for their organization in different period of the firm.
