Research On The Motivation Of The Regular Guests In Youth Hostel

This article mainly used the research ways of participant observation and interview survey to analyze the characteristics and behaviors of the regular guests of youth hostel. Based on specific motivations like experiencing, fleeing, contacting with others and self-fulfilling, the author wants to seek the original motive power that people go for backpacking and live in youth hostel. Through critical reflection of present social context, the author believed that the modernity is the basic reason for people who choose the mobile lifestyle.In this paper, the influences of the modernity are ubiquitous in terms of the social background, interpersonal interaction and the intro-personal level. The modern world system aims for economic development based on rationality, scientific and continuous change. In this system, the nature is fading away gradually because of the industrialization and urbanization. The presence becomes unnecessary because globalization and the development of the medium separated the space and the time. The people in expanding numbers are engaged in consumer culture guided by money and power because of capitalism. The emotional and pure motivation of people’s behavior is disappearing because of scientism and rationalism. In addition, the interpersonal interaction is also great changed. Family is losing its cohesion because of the disappearing of traditional family ethic. The marriage and love is still unable to get rid of the interferences of external factors like economic capability, social status, and power of both male and female. Friendship or people’s daily interactions turn to be indifferent or flattering because of utilitarian erosion. Therefore, people are confronting with inner-personal crises like the lack of the sense of security, beliefs and identity. People have difficulties in doubting existence because of the unstable inner world caused by the constantly changing social background and interpersonal communications. All these are the worries brought by modernity and these give people original motive power to escape from the existing context and pursuit for new existence.Consequently, the usual occupants of youth hostel, as a result of the modernistic consequences, who choose a different lifestyle, are booming developing. They escape from the modern city to a nature world; they escape from the money-control world to a simple life; they escape from the indifference communication to a friendly relationship; they escape from the virtual world to a real life...However, people can not complete move away from the modernity. A certain number of people are keeping radical involving in confrontation and change of modern life.
