Heterogeneous wireless network is the trend of next generation wireless network, it aims to provide various services for subscribers, and effectively exploit radio network resource. Network selection and bandwidth allocation have always been the research hotspots during the past several years. Reasonable network selection algorithms can provide end users with satisfied quality of service, and also reasonable bandwidth allocation can improve the system resource utilization. As an effective mathematic tool of analyzing and modeling, game theory is widely used in the study of heterogeneous networks. This thesis studies the radio resource allocation in heterogeneous networks based on game theory. The main contributions of this thesis are as follows:(1)The dynamic of network selection in heterogeneous wireless networks using the theory of evolutionary games is studied in this thesis. The competition among groups of users in different service areas to share the limited amount of bandwidth in the available wireless networks is formulated as an evolutionary game. Subscribers calculate their payoffs according to the bandwidth allocated, and the evolutionary equilibrium is considered to be the solution to this game. The simulation results show that at the evolutionary equilibrium, subscriber’s payoff is equal to the average payoff of the population.(2)To deal with the bandwidth allocation in heterogeneous wireless networks, a location-based noncooperative bandwidth allocation scheme of multi-access is proposed to maximize the user’s utility. In this scheme, a user can access multiple networks simultaneously to improve the payoff. The concave function condition of the proposed utility function is demonstrated which assure the existence of Nash equilibrium of the game. The simulation results show that users can make different choices to maximize their utility according to their location, and the system throughout can be guaranteed to improve the system performance.(3)This thesis puts forward a network selection algorithm based on AHP multiple attribution decision making and matching game. Firstly, for the users, the analytic hierarchy process method is adopted to obtain the priority sequence of each network. Then, for the networks, they obtain the priority sequence of each user according to the throughout they can gain when a user is admitted. After the users and the networks obtained their own priority sequence, the matching game is used to model the network selection problem. The proposed algorithm considers both the users and networks. It can balance the interests better between the users and networks. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively balance the load among the networks, reduce connect blocking probability and improve the systems throughput.
