The Influence Of Government Supply Of Infrastructure On Individual Subjective Well-being

The ultimate goal of human existence and development is to create and achieve happiness. The psychological mechanisms that bring individual happy experience are multidimensional and complex. They include both material factors and irreplaceable spiritual factors. Focus to the social level, what role government plays in the effort of pursuing public happiness, or how the Government’s act converted to public happiness constitute an urgent thought.From the government’s perspective of infrastructure provision, this article intends to summarize the role of the government through the analysis on the path of how the infrastructure affects individual subjective well-being. Therefore it helps to provide the answer to the question we talked about. So this is not only to explore the responsibility boundaries of government, market and social interaction in the field of infrastructure supply. It is also an important proposition of rationalizing enterprise relations and modernizing governance touching new era.This paper focuses on the influence of government supply of infrastructure on individual subjective well-being. Firstly, by reviewing domestic and foreign classical literature, the concept of infrastructure will be located in the broad areas. This concept includes three dimensions: production, service and protection. We also use 13 indicators to evaluate government infrastructure supply index comprehensively. And the individual subjective well-being is measured by Leonard Inglehart paradigm.Secondly, based on theoretical analysis and logical deduction, assuming four mechanisms of how government supply of infrastructure influence individual subjective well-being. The four mechanisms include promoting economic development, increasing private income, enhancing social justice and improving the quality of government to improve the level of happiness.Thirdly, public statistics and large sample surveys help us to get the panel data from 2010 to 2013 of 21 cities in Guangdong Province. And we choose Ordered logit regression model to get the final results. The result conforms the four assumptions. Infrastructure supplied by government helps to promote economic development, increase private income, enhance social justice and improve the quality of government. And the four channels to enhance the proportion of the total effect of the individual subjective well-being are 22.9%, 36.0%, 11.8% and 17.6%. Obviously, it provides an important and valuable insight in optimizing the model of government supply.
