"Resource curse" refers to the negative relationship between resource abundance and economic growth. Many studies have been reported about this issue but disputes still exist in choices of index and econometric models. Located in the middle of China, Shanxi Province made great contributions in energy supply to the Chinese economic development. But its economic development has fallen behind in China, with continued deterioration of the ecological and social environment, which affects local people’s quality of life. The paper aims to identify if the results will be different when applying various index but keeping quantitative methods and control variable unchanged in the evaluation process. Because different indicators represent different values and standards, we can find its potential defects and applicability through studying on the existing index and classification. By comparing with their coefficient, we try to test the stability of ―Resource Curse‖ effect in Shanxi Province. Based on the specific condition, we collected economic and resource data of Shanxi Province in 1994-2014 as the research sample. Through calculating its resource abundance using 6 different indexes, discussing relationship between resource abundance and economic development, we tested the stability of "Resource curse" in Shanxi at last.Firstly, we made the initial experience observation for the relationship between natural resources and economic growth; then set up the time series model, and made partial least squares regression analysis after adding the control variables. We draw the conclusion: When the model is consistent with the measurement methods and control variables, the selection of different indicators can cause the different results. Therefore, we should be cautious of indexes selection. Because the reserves, exploitation and utilization of natural resources will bring certain influence on economic growth, we should pay attention to these phenomena and avoid trapping our economy in "Resource curse".
