Discussion Of The United State Food Labeling System And Implications For China

Food safety is not only related to people’s life and health, also related to national economic development and political stability. Food labeling system is an effective way to ensure food safety.Chinese food labeling system started late, and the developing still exists certain problems. Based on the analysis of the United States food labeling system, we can draw lessons from it and improve the system of our country’s food labels.The innovation of this article lies in that the author will determine the research direction on food labels which ranges in small extent. The article studis how to regulate food production and operation enterprises and to ensure the safety of food from the perspective of food labels. But most scholars are focused on food problems from the macro perspective of food safety,and it result in the lack of food labeling system research and the lag of food labeling legislation in our country.Article structure:Chapter one:Summary of the United States food labeling system. This part elaborated the food labeling system in the United States from five aspects:definitions related to food labels, the United States food labeling management agencies, the United States food labeling laws and regulations system, the characteristics of the United States food labeling system and the meaning of the United States food labeling system.Chapter two:Superiority of the United States food labeling system.This part expounded the superiority of American food labeling system from two hands:legislation and practice. The paper discussed the superiority of legislation from three points:there are many kinds of food labels with high standards, the definitions of food labels related terms is clear, violation of food labeling regulations will be punished severely. And this paper discussed the superiority of practice from three points:government, enterprise and consumer.Chapter three:Enlightenment of the United State food labeling system for our country. Chinese food labeling system should be completed on the aspects of legislation, practice after the comparative study on the food labeling system of two contries. The enlightenment of the legislative level will be discussed from four aspects:enrich variety of food labels and improve standards of food labels, define relevant terms of food labels, improve the penalty cost of food label illegal crime, and establish food safety reward and punishment systems. The enlightenment of the practical level will be discussed from three aspects:government, enterprise, consumer.
