Female labor force has become the dominant labor force in China’s agricultural production as a result of a large migration of rural male labor force to cities and towns or non-agricultural fields.Researches on popularization modes of China’s traditional agricultural techniques have found that, in the background of agricultural feminization, the main reason for low efficiency of popularizing traditional agricultural techniques lies in gender blind zone. Based on social gender theories as well as field investigation into the technique popularization phenomenon in Boxing, Shandong province, the thesis analyzes the social gender situation and problems existing in local agricultural technique popularization from the micro perspective. It focuses on the gender difference in popularizing agricultural techniques, emphasizes the importance of rural female laborers in the popularization process, and suggests external intervention, namely the social gender sensitive participatory popularization of agricultural techniques, with an expectation that this thesis may offer some help to improve the existing popularization modes.Firstly, to strengthen gender awareness in the popularization of agricultural technologies, women organizations such as the Women’s Federation should be given a full play in the popularization process and participants should pay enough attention to the gender difference, so that each stage, from policy making to technology popularization and implementation, women can function equally as men do.Secondly, to stress the gender problem that is often overlooked during the popularization, this thesis puts forward the idea of setting up a social gender sensitive popularization mode which is a revolution to the traditional modes in both contents and methods. The new mode can increase the enthusiasm and confidence of rural female workers. While improving the transformation rate of agricultural scientific achievements, the mode also helps rural female workers with their self-improvement.Thirdly,importance should be attached to the development of rural female workers and the improvement of their social status. This is the key problem that leads to the low transformation rate in the feminization of agriculture.
