With the development of economic globalization and regional integration, regional tourism cooperation has become an important force to promote the development of the tourism industry. In this context, the construction of tourism destination circle began to rise gradually, and become an important symbol of regional tourism cooperation. Tourism destination circle, as a kind of spatial organization, must have its own scale. If the size of the tourism destination circle is too large to make the supply is greater than demand,it will make resources in tourism destination circle can not make full use of resulting in a waste of resources.Besides, many cities that join the tourism destination circle will increase the cost of regional cooperation; Conversely, if the scale of the tourism circle is too small and the supply is insufficient, it can not effectively meet the needs of tourists, so, the same is not conducive to the development of the tourism destination circle and the overall efficiency of the upgrade. Therefore, it is important to research the optimal scale of tourism destination circle. Since the beginning of twenty-first Century, the regional competition of China’s tourism has entered a new era of regional synergy and inter regional competition from scenic spot competition, line competition and city competition. By 2014, the number of tourist destination circles mentioned in the Chinese mainland has reached more than 40. On the premise of quantity, if we can identify the appropriate scale of each tourism circle, it will have practical guiding significance to the development of China’s tourism circle. In academia, point of view of tourism destination circle in optimal scale mainly from qualitative and quantitative. In the qualitative aspects, the early study is simply to use the core-periphery structure Theory on border delineation tourism destination circle, there is a big defective. In the quantitative aspects, mainly from the overflow point of view, gradually formed the simultaneous equation model, the seemingly unrelated regression model, the gap model, Spatial Economics and the agent-based simulation model. The first three models can only measure the tourism spillover size between two area, even though ABS model can measure multiple spillover areas and can be good for explain tourism spillover mechanism, but it does not consider the relevance of geographical space. According to the first law of geography, everything in the world exist correlation and spatial econometric models are good considering the relevance of the geographical space. So, we use spatial econometric models, and the domestic tourists in 358 prefecture level cities in mainland China as the research object and the number of domestic tourists and related tourism data as the source in this paper (Data from 《China’s Regional Economic Statistics Yearbook》, 《China Statistical Yearbook》, 《2012 China’s tourism scenic area development report》and the sixth census, etc.). By using the method of spatial econometrics, the overflow of domestic tourist flow is analyzed and the appropriate scale of tourism destination circle is studies. Through the analysis can be found:1)Tourism industry factor, traffic facilities factor, economic factor, natural factor and the surrounding market are the most important factors which influence the domestic tourism demand; 2)There is a spatial correlation between the tourism flows in the area and the correlation is different in size and pattern over time; 3)The average size of the tourism destination circle is [4,11]cities in the whole country, and eastern region is in a range for [4,25] city and subdivision tourism destination circle is [4,9] cities, the central and western regions is [5,11] cities, the southern region is [4,6] cities, the northern region is [4,12] cities; 4) the average scale of the tourism circle in the Yangtze River Delta is [4,12] cities. There are some research problems, such as spatial weight matrix and select model, still need to do more in-depth study.
