China became a net oil importer since 1993. and then the amount of oil imported from abroad increased; and in the early nineties Chinese oil companies began to invest in overseas exploration activities. Africa is China’s important imports and oil investment area. However, some African countries are still suffering from the civil wars, the political situation is still very unstable, Chinese oil interests in this region are influenced to different degrees. This paper mainly focuses on the impact of civil wars in the African country’s on China’s oil interests and explores in the past twenty years how the African civil wars influence China’s oil interests and how the Chinese government and oil companies dealt with these impacts. The basic point of this article believes that African country’s civil wars adversely affect China’s oil interests, mainly in the reduction of China’s oil imports, the stop of oil production activities of Chinese oil companies, the security risk of oil workers and sabotage of oil production equipment and when the war ended and the new government was established, the continuation and cooperation of oil contracts. In effect, the Chinese government and the oil companies respond flexibly. The former began to actively mediate conflict parties, the later uses various means to reduce the risks, such as the use of political risk insurance, local businesses assume social responsibility. Since the civil conflicts will last for a long time, China should timely reduce oil imports and investments in unstable regions.
