Tajikistan enveloped in ideological confusion, economic fall and political instability around its independence. And in 1992, a civil war (1992—1997) broke out in Tajikistan. The five-year civil war had a strong impact upon Tajikistan. Although reasons which led to the outbreak of the civil war were various, throughout the civil war in Tajikistan, three sets of factors and their interaction played a decisive role in the civil war. These three sets of factors are the relation between the religious political power and the secular political power, the relation of regional interest groups, and the relation of external powers and Tajikistan. These three sets of factors and their interaction dragged Tajikistan into the civil war, and decided the trend of the civil war together. Therefore, the civil war in Tajikistan was a struggle and compromise for power and benefits between the religious political power and the secular political power which were supported by external powers and were on the basis of regional interest groups. The gunsmoke of the civil war in Tajikistan already dispersed, but the painful lessons of the civil war are worth us thinking deeply.
