Fast and efficient freight decency is an important support of economic development. With the vigorous development of the national economy, single mode of transport has been difficult to meet the growing requests of customers, such as safety, high efficiency, low cost and other aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to actively develop transport systems, promote the integration of various modes of transport. Multimodal transport is an advanced and efficient transport organization form. Different modes of transport can be carried out in accordance with their own combination of features, so as to realize the integration of different modes of transport, maximizing transport efficiency. For the interface between different transport modes in multimodal transport, container came into being. It provided active support for the development of multimodal transport. It can be said, container transport based on multimodal transport is a product of the development of modern logistics system, it is an advanced form of the development of container logistics and transport. So, it has important practical significance for improving the level of service transport and social comprehensive to study on multimodal transportation about path selection and optimized combination of modes of transport, in order to achieve cost savings, save time and reduce social costs.This paper, firstly, starts with the concept of containers multimodal transport, analyzes the features and advantages of containers multimodal transport, and introduces the concept of containers multimodal transport network and its constituent elements. Meanwhile, it conducts a review on the development status as well as existing problems of containers multimodal transport in domestic and overseas, thus, highlighting the importance of researching on transportation network optimization of containers multimodal transport. Secondly, it focuses on the containers transport mode selection and decision-making. Compare the highway, railway, water, air four basic modes of transportation comprehensively, from the pros and cons, transportation costs, technical and economic characteristics of three aspects. On this basis, propose transport costs, transport time, bulk batches, partnerships and others five factors, build evaluation index system of containers transport, and make evaluation and analysis with gray evaluation theory. Finally, consider the economic costs, time costs and social costs three factors, with transport time constraints, set the minimize overall cost of entire transport process as goal, build a mathematical transportation network optimization model of containers multimodal transport, and using genetic algorithm to optimize and solve the model.The problem of the transportation network optimization of the containers multimodal transport is one of the most difficult problems in the container business. One of the schemes had a direct influence on the container transportation enterprise’s economic benefit. It had become container’s key factors in the container’s business. Through the container optimization scheme of system research, the study expected to provide useful theory and method support for the container transportation industry and enterprise’s operational management inspiration in the future.
