Port equipments are so important for the operation and development of these port enterprises that they have to store amount of spare parts for fear of equipment malfunctions and production disruptions due to a shortage of spare parts. However, purchasing cost and inventory cost increase with the growth of amount and variety of spare parts stored, which will lead to more liquidity occupation and less profits. The research on spare parts inventory management is very important for the production of port enterprises.In the face of fierce competition, Seventh branch company have to manage spare parts inventory efficiently and store the most optimal amount of spare parts to reduce liquidity occupation and operation cost.Firstly, this paper demonstrated the background and significance of research on spare parts inventory management, introduced related theories about spare parts, inventory management and spare parts inventory management.Secondly, this paper analyzed current situation and some problems of spare parts inventory management of Seventh branch company, then deduced the reasons behind these problems-inappropriate management principal, unscientific classification and outdated method to manage spare parts inventory.Thirdly, this paper proposed several solutions to resolve problems of spare parts inventory management for Seventh branch Company, which included improvement of the classification of spare parts, inventory control strategy and joint inventory management of spare parts.In the end, this paper raised safeguard measures on technique, institution, organization and human resources, in order to make sure the improvement plan for inventory management of Seventh branch Company can be implemented appropriately.
