Land is the carrier of the natural environment and the human society and economy. Under the complicated mechanism of man and nature, a variety of land use types have been produced, and the regional land use structure has been formed. Regional land use is an open complex giant system, on the one hand, land use interfered by external environment changes, on the other hand, it plays a leading role in the ecosystem function, and acts on the external environment. Therefore, rational land use structure is the basis for sustainable development. Due to the limitation of land resources, the infinite nature of social demand and the passive change of land use structure, it requires adjustment and optimization of land use pattern in the process of social development constantly, so as to adapt to the development and change of the social demand with reasonable land use structure and realize the sustainable utilization of land resources.This paper selects Baiyun district of Guangzhou city as an example to study the optimization of land use structure. It takes the perspective of combining quantity with spatial structure, using multi-objective optimization model, accumulative cost distance model, suitability evaluation and grain size inverse method to conduct a study. In addition, specific optimization measures are put forward. The results were:(1) Comprehensive benefit scheme that based on the principle of "ecological priority, taking into account the economic and social benefits" could adapt to the requirement of the sustainable development of Baiyun district better. Farmland, forest land and transportation land that need to be increased 1147.52hm2, 4466.23hm2 and 1164.29hm2 respectively. The area of garden, grassland and other land and construction land shall be correspondingly reduced.(2) The suitability evaluation of cultivated land and forest land, combined with the results of the comprehensive benefit plan, determine the mode of land conversion, and realize the spatial precision positioning of the land type conversion. The land conversion of Baiyun District is mainly influenced by topography and human activities.(3) The ecological landscape of 1000 m size group structure is the appropriate reference ecological source selection for the area. There are 11 ecological sources, 21 ecological corridor and 18 ecological nodes. Different types of ecological corridors and ecological nodes, should take the corresponding construction measures.(4) The optimization of land use structure is divided into 3 parts :quantitative analysis, the determination of the location of the earth like transition space and ecological system strengthening, which combines quantity and spatial structure optimization organically and achieves the optimization theory and practical operation of the effective docking.
