STS Study On Mohist Thought Of Science

Mozi, a great scientist in ancient China, found the Mohist School that was the most scientific spirit of the academic group at that time. The book of Mozi not only contains a lot of scientific knowledge, but also is a landmark in the history of Science in ancient China. Since modern times, on the study of Mohism, scholars have related to the Mohism of philosophy, politics, management science, economics, military science and so on, meanwhile have made many achievements in the field of science.The theory of science seems to be incomplete though, making great achievements in the study of Mohism of science. This paper attempts to STS theory as the research perspective. On the one hand, through the description scientific theoretical achievements of Mohism including mathematics, physics, logic, summarizes the basic characteristics of the Mohism in science; on the another hand, researches the relationships between the rise of the Mohist Scientific Thoughts, the interruption of the Mohist Scientific Thoughts, the renaissance of the Mohist. Scientific Thoughts and social factors, and evaluates its historical significance and the value of the times.Due to various reasons, it did’t get effective development and spread, althoungh the outstanding Mohist Scientific Thoughts had influences on the development of ancient Chinese society. This paper explores its social factors, and hoping to get some inspiration in order to realize its value of the times.
