Along with the vigorous development and utilization of marine resources in our country,the exploitation and construction of uninhabited islands has become a strategic focus to promote marine economy development.The environment of uninhabited islands is complicated,and the Island Habitation Cabin can provide reliable guarantee for people who live and work there.But islands are located in remote areas,with severe power shortage;the most important thing for development utilization of islands is the supply of electricity.Considering of the abundant wind energy resources on islands,it is an effective way to use wind power to supply power for the island.With the characteristics of no need for yaw mechanisms,convenient installation and maintenance low noise,simple blade manufacture and better environmental adaptability,comparing with horizontal axis wind turbines,vertical axis wind turbines can be better applied to Wind-solar-diesel Hybrid Generating System in Island Habitation Cabin.In order to make better use of wind energy resources in islands,this paper takes advantage of both wind tunnel test and numerical simulation to make research on the application of small VAWTs on islands,based on self-starting performance and dynamic output performance of small VAWTs.Firstly,this paper analyzes the basic operating principle of VAWTs in theory,and establishes the mathematical model of VAWTs based on the Multiple Streamtube model,then establishes 2D simulation model by Computational Fluid Dynamics technology.Secondly,a wind tunnel test bench for aerodynamic performance of small VAWTs was built.We do research on a type of 100 W straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine with asymmetric airfoils.Static self-starting performance and dynamic output performance of the VAWT was investigated,and verified the accuracy and reliability of numerical simulation.Finally,the influence of design parameters such as airfoil type,blade number,pitch angle and chord length of blade on aerodynamic performance of 1kW VAWTs utilizing on islands has been studied through numerical simulation.The research reveals that vertical axis wind turbine with asymmetric airfoils shows better static self-starting performance comparing to traditional Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbine.We can draw a conclusion that if considering both self-starting performance and dynamic output performance,a type of VAWT with 4 blade numbers,0°pitch angle,300 mm chord length and asymmetric airfoil 3734 shows relative better aerodynamic performance.In addition,the matching property between the 1kW VAWT wind wheel and the generator is analyzed in this paper.And we establish the calculation model of hourly output power of the VAWT,and then calculate annual power generation of single wind turbine according to the wind resources of different island.This paper has a good reference for the option of wind turbines in Island Habitation Cabin and the optimization design of small VAWT blades.
