The Research On Pre-Needham Puzzle

Seen from the river of history,the maintain content of Needham Puzzle had been mentioned two hundred years ago,those preachers of Ming and Qing dynasty had realized the uniqueness of Chinese science and technology civilization in comparison with that of western countries.The civilization of Chinese science and technology has both merits and demerits.When they brought Chinese science and technology back to Europe,the scientists among European countries extremely admired Chinese ancient science and technology,however,they still found a great many drawbacks.Thus they analyzed the features and drawbacks of Chinese ancient science and technology.These conclusions are not inferior to the answers of Needham Puzzle that are figured out by following generations.Meanwhile,Chinese scholars such as Li Hongzhang,Liang Qichao,Feng Youlan had all thought of the problems such as why Chinese failed to have science and technology and what are the main reasons.More precisely,they tried to explored the reasons why Chinese ancient science and technology leg behind that of western countries.Thus,this essay defines the analysis of Chinese science and technology's features and drawbacks as former Needham Puzzle and aims at develop further research.This essay mainly includes two aspects.One is the analysis of the features of Chinese science and technology and why it leg behind western countries conducted by western preachers,Chinese experts and Edo Japanese 's Western Leaning scholars.The other is the exploration why science and technology failed to appear in China and why Chinese science and technology leg behind other countries.In this sense,this essay aims to illustrate the value and meaning of Needham Puzzle and thus make contribution to the researcher of Needham Puzzle.
