With the impact of human activities on ecosystem health is increasingly violent, ecosystem health is gradually attracted people's attention. Watershed ecosystem is a compound ecosystem of society?economy and nature, has a certain integrity. Its ecological health status is closely related with the production and life of human, and is causing more and more attention from experts. In recent years, the maturation of RS and GIS technology provides ecosystem health assessment a strong support. Extracting ecological environment information and evaluating basin ecological health by RS and GIS measures has been widely used.In this paper, taking Liaohe River basin as study object, based on remote sensing data and other auxiliary data, combined with third level aquatic ecoregion, according to the ecological structure, the basin is divided into terrestrial, riparian and aquatic ecosystem, and evaluation index systems are selected respectively based on different ecological features. Aquatic indicators are based on aquatic habit and water ecological stress; riparian indicators are selected in the consideration of ecological structure, ecological function and ecological stress; terrestrial indicators are selected with reference to ecological patterns, ecological function and ecological stress,17 ecological health assessment indexes are selected finally. The weight of each index is determined by AHP and expert scoring, basin ecological health is evaluated by the integrated index method finally, reveal the ecological health of Liao River basin and each third level aquatic ecoregion.The study proves that it is feasible by selecting indexes based on terrestrial-riparian- aquatic ecosystem, adopting reasonable indicators evaluation method, combining with remote sensing and GIS technology as the core to evaluate ecological health. The result of evaluation can sufficiently offer spatial characteristic of basin ecosystem healthy, provide scientific basis of basin ecological construction for policy managers and decision makers and has an important effect on protection and management of basin.
