Epoxy is a thermosetting polymer widely used in various industries, as it has excellent mechanical, dielectrical and chemical properties, and epoxy resin modified by inorganic nano material is an attractive topic. Graphene oxide?GO?, possesses abundant functional groups and feasibility of mass production, has attracted great attention in the research field of polymer based nanocomposites. In order to improve the performances of EP composite, GO is functionalized to achieve better interfical interaction between GO and EP. The introduction of GO and Al2O3 into epoxy resin combines the advantages of both possibility obtain the excellent performance of the three-phase composites, and expand the application of epoxy resin.This study represents a new approach to prepare Al2O3 and functionalized GO and modified EP. GO was prepared by improved Hummers method. Al2O3 rods?r Al2O3? and Al2O3 sheets?s Al2O3? were obtained by hydrothermal method. After GO was functionalized by KH560, r Al2O3 and s Al2O3 respectively, s Al2O3/EP, GO/EP and GO/Al2O3/EP three-phase composites were prepared. The morphology and structure of GO, Al2O3 and GO-Al2O3 were characterized and the performance of s Al2O3/EP composites, GO/EP composites and GO/Al2O3/EP three-phase composites were tested. Analyses the influence of GO content and different methods of functionalization on dielectric properties, mechanical properties and thermal stability of EP composites materials.The results revealed that the introduction of GO improved the mechanical properties of the EP composites.The impact strength of the 0.7 wt% GO/EP composites was 12.17 k J·m-2, which was 2.4 times of that of the pure EP. The cocoporation of 0.7 wt% GO and 3 wt% s Al2O3 into EP further improved impact strength of EP composite to 28.67 k J·m-2, which was 5.74 times of that of the pure EP. The excellent mechanical properties were due to the effective interaction betweens Al2O3 and GO and the effective transportion of the strain.Dielectric strength of the EP composite was increased by adding GO into EP.The dielectric strength of the 0.5 wt% GO/EP composites was 19.32 k V/mm, which was 1.14 times of that of the pure EP. The co-coporation of 0.5 wt% GO and 3 wt%s Al2O3 into EP further improved dielectric strength of the EP composite to24.47 k V/mm, which was 1.45 times of that of the pure EP. The thermal stability of the GO/Al2O3/EP three-phase composites was slightly lower than that of the pure EP,however, it still can be used in the application of the fields.
