Heliotropin has been applied widely in food flavor adjunct,cosmetic product essence and tobacco flavorings,and also in developing berberine as well as in electroplating industry.In view of the questions existed in crystallization process such as the poor size,coalescence and low yield,the author conducted a systematic research on the crystallization process of heliotropin and put forward a new crystallization process in the article.The X-ray powder diffraction data were analyzed by using Materials Studio software to get the crystal cell parameters.Crystal structure of heliotropin was simulated by the study on crystal morphology.The solubility of heliotropin in methanol,ethanol,water,isopropyl alcohol,ethanol addition with APG,and water-ethanol binary mixture systerm was measured by using dynamic laser technique at atmospheric pressure.Also,the metastable zone was measured in several pure solvents.The solubility data were correlated by using Apelblat model and(CNIBS)/Redlich-Kister model.The crystallization kinetics was vitally important for guiding the operation.It studied the effects of nucleation and growth accompanied the changes of suspension density and degree of supersaturation under the conditions of different stirring rate,cooling rate.The nucleation and growth models were set up according to the population balance equation,size-independent growth model,moment transformation method and processing of data regression by adopting batch dynamic method.The influence of operation parameters on grain size and yield were investigated,such as initial concentration,adding temperature and dosage of seeds,crystal growing time,cooling rate and stirring speed.The optimized operation conditions list of cooling crystallization of heliotropin was obtained.Spherical agglomeration behavior of heliotropin was researched by analyzing the influences on grain size and yield,including the variety of solvent,methods of crystallization,cooling strategies,stirring speed,species and dosage of crystal modifier.Under suitable conditions,optimized Spherical agglomeration process was acquired.
