Molecular self-assembly plays an important role in life system, and is one of the most essential part of biological environment and life system. In recent years, due to structural diversity and promising application prospect in life science, peptide self-assembly has been extensively explored over the past few decades. In this paper, Amphiphilic peptide with or without oligoethylene glycols(OEG) chains based on 3,4-bis(benzyloxy)benzoic-linked glutamide were designed and their self-assembly was investigated. It was found that the amphiphilic peptide 15 with OEG chains could not only form more stability gel in more wide solvents, but also show solubility in more solvents than those without OEG chains. The fibrillar and nanotube structures were found in the gel formations and the width of fibers could be fine-tuned with water assistant. The UV-vis and XRD results suggested that the driving forces of the self-assembly peptide were mainly the ?-? and hydrogen bonding-interactions of the inter-molecules. Through theoretical calculations and CPK molecular modeling, the self-assembled model was obtained, more vivid introduction the reasons for the formation of the assembly. The OEG group could not only improve the solubility of the molecules, but also allow the control of width of nanofibers in gel formation with water assistant. These results provide a deeper understanding of the self-assembling mechanism and size control of nanofibrils formed by OEG-based amphiphilic peptide.
