In order to produce TiC powders in large scle, The nano-TiC powders were prepared in microwave oven using nano TiO 2 and CB as raw materials. X-Ray Diffract ion, SEM and laser particle-size distribut ion were used to study the effects of microwave t ime, type o f raw materials and mo lar rat io on the synthesis of TiC powders. The results show that the opt imum microwave t ime was 100 min. The single phase TiC can be synthesized using anatase titanium dioxide as raw materials. The crystal size o f single phase TiC powders, which can be prepared using anatase and acetylene black in the mo lar ratio of 1:3.5, was 47.30 nm. The sto ichio metry o f synthesized TiC beco me to standard value when the dosage of CB increase. The dispersant?po lyacrylic acid? was used to modify the surface of raw materials in abso lute ethyl alcoho l. The modified raw materials were blended by wet ball-milling and used to synthesize TiC powders in microwave oven. Zeta potent ial measurement, viscosit y measurement, X-Ray Diffraction and laser part icle-size distribut ion were used to study the effects of surface modification and mixing procedure?pH, dispersant, ball-milling? on the phase co mposit ion, sto ichio metry and part icle size distribut ion. The results show the temperature of synthesizing TiC powders can be reduced by 150 ? after dispersing raw materials. The purit y of TiC powders can be improved. The crystal size and average crystal size became smaller and the sto ichio metry was more accurate. The optimum modified value o f pH was 4 and the opt imum dosage of dispersant was 2.4 wt.% and 9 wt.%, respect ively. As to the mixtures of TiO2 and CB, the optimum pH was 4 and the opt imum dosage of dispersant was 4.38 wt.%. The optimum milling time was 6 h and the optimum formula of preparing TiC powders was TiO2: CB= 1: 3?mo lar ratio?. The average crystal size o f synthesized TiC was 27.59 nm.The TiC powders were dispersed with ultrasonic wave in deionized water using po lyacrylic acid as dispersant. Laser particle-size distribut ion, Zeta potent ial measurement, FT-IR and SEM were used to study the effects of ultrasonic time, dispersant concentration and pH values on the dispersion of TiC powders. The results show that the TiC has less aggregates and the mean grain size was 0.032 ?m after dispersing. The opt imum ultrasonic time was 4 min. The optimum value of pH was 4 and the opt imum concentration of dispersant?po lyacrylic acid? was 1.8 wt.%.
