Insulating powder coating is a special powder coating applied to motors,electrical devices and electronic components. At present, the common insulation powder coating on the market has the disadvantages of poor weather resistance, high price and so on. Acrylic powder coating has good weather resistance and excellent decorative properties, which has become a hot spot in the research of powder coatings.However, due to the poor mechanical properties of acrylic powder coating, it has limited its wide application in the field of insulation. With the development of coating industry, it is very important to develop a better comprehensive performance of acrylic insulation powder coatings. Three parts of works were stated as below.1. The epoxy acrylic resins were prepared by solution polymerization using St,MMA as the hard monomer, BA as a soft monomer, GMA as an epoxy functional acrylic monomer with the monomer ratio as: MMA: St: BA: GMA = 47: 10: 13: 30,we chose BPO as initiator with the amount of 3% of the total mass of the monomer.The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution were 6.9 × 103 and 1.76 respectively measured by GPC. Glass transition temperature of the resin was 53.8oC measured through DSC. A series of modified acrylic resin was prepared by using stearate, benzoic acid and phthalimide, and their structures were characterized by means of IR and 1H NMR.2. The powder coating was prepared by using the homemade acrylic resin. The curing conditions, the content of curing agent, content of the epoxy group of resin and other factors on the performance of powder coating were studied. The best curing time was 160oC/min and the curing agent with the resin functional group ratio of 1:1.Increasing the content of epoxy group can enhance the performance of the film. We study the insulation and heat resistance of the film with the change of curing agent content and epoxy group content. Experiments show that the home-made acrylic resin powder coating have good insulation. We researched the effect of the three kind of monomer on film properties. The result show that Set stearate can enhance the impact resistance of the film, but the storage stability of the powder coatings is lowered,benzoic acid is unfavorable impact resistance of the film, phthalimide is able to enhance the mechanical strength of the film, while maintaining the stability of the film.3. The paper also study the feasibility of potassium titanate whisker as a fillerused in the acrylic resin powder coatings. The results showed that the potassium titanate whiskers uniformly dispersed in the film, a small amount of potassium titanate whiskers can significantly enhance the mechanical properties of the film, as the whisker content increases the electrical performance film has a certain degree of reduction. When the content of potassium titanate whisker is 2%, the overall performance of the film is best.
