Water resources is the foundation of human survival, the available water resources in the world is constantly shrinking, there are many area water supply tension, even the shortage of water resources. The government for environmental regulation is increasing, while for the test of water pollutants, water pollutants online monitoring equipment is necessary. Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) is the key indicators of degree of water polluted by reducing substance. The traditional chemical method exists many defects, slow speed of analysis, complex operation, causing secondary pollution, etc., and the UV water analyzer which is the most commonly used in physical method is very hard to do the real-time online detection. At present, the majority of the water detection system on the market is monopolized by foreign manufacturers; it is badly in need of localization. This subject designed an on-line water pollution detection system based on the backscattering radar technology. It is a machine with ARM9 + DSP as the core processor and radar technique for the detection principle. It realized the on-line measurement of water. It had completed concept development. The main work is as follows:(1) Introducing the necessity of environmental monitoring and the present situation about the on-line pollution water testing instrument, analyzing the general situation at home and abroad. Recommend the main contents and significance of this topic. Expound the COD detection method, the advantages and disadvantages of various methods. Explain why the current mainstream monitor equipment cannot meet the demand of the marker. At the same time, the backscattering laser radar technology is introduced in the paper. And we put forward a new method for detection of water pollutants.(2) On the basis of theoretical research, we developed an on-line water pollution detection system based on the backscattering radar technology. We had completed the main control system, optical transmission circuits, optical receiving circuits and the design of the signal processing circuits, and had carried on the analysis of the experiments.(3) We verified the feasibility of this method by experiments, and improved the measures for the next step to make a good foundation.
