Glass fiber reinforced plastics, referred as glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products, exhibit excellent comprehensive performances, and are widely applied in the field of rail transportation. Glass fiber reinforced nylon plastics are generally produced by injection molding. The defects are usually formed in the interior of the products due to raw material, mould and other factors, which will damage the performances of the products. Therefore, detecting the defects located in the interior of the products is important and necessary. Compared with the traditional testing methods, nondestructive testing technology(NDT) based on physical methods showes many superior advantages, such as its nondestruction, accuracy and its convience, etc. At present, NDT is widely applied in the field of metal materials, however, there is a limited application in the field of plastic products. Therefore, exploiting the application of NDT in the field of plastic products is significant. In this paper, ultrasonic testing, digital radiographic testing and infrared nondestructive testing were employed to detect the defects exsited in the glass fiber reinforced plastic, and some preliminary results have been achieved. The detailed contents were summarized as the follows:(1) The defects detection of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products by ultrasonic testing. The internal defects of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products were detected by the ultrasonic detector, and a seies of factors effected the experimental results, such as the kinds of plastic products, the depth and size of defect, and ultrasonic detector probe types as well as the experimental conditions, have been carefully investigated.(2) The defects detection of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products by digital X-ray radiographic testing. The internal defects of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products were detected by the digital X-ray flaw detector, and a seies of factors effected the experimental results, such as the kinds of plastic products, the shape and thickness of products as well as the effect of the radiation intensity of X-ray, and the detection parameters were optimized finally.(3) The defects detection of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products by infrared NDT. The internal defects of glass fiber reinforced nylon plastic products were detected by the infrared detector, and the experimental results were compared with the theoretical analysis.
