Zirconium silicon residue is the solid production wastes of series of zirconium compounds(such as zirconium dioxide, chloride-oxygen zirconium, etc.),which produced by using Na OH to decompose zircon to prepare zirconium compounds. With the increasing demands of zirconium compounds, more and more zirconium silicon residues and dilute alkali liquor were also produced during the production of zirconium compounds. At present, the main treatment methods of the zirconium silicon residues are piling up in the factory or landfill,which bring serious environment pollution or occupied more and more land. In order to reduce the solid waste pollution and protect environment,zirconium silicon residue has been reused to prepare white carbon black,heat insulation materials and other products, which is not only good for solid waste recycling, but also good for improving the utilization rate of non-renewable resources.In this paper, the acidic zirconium silicon residue was used as raw material to prepare white carbon black by direct neutralization method and heat insulating materials by hydrothermal synthesis. The samples were analyzed by SEM, IR, XPS, XRD, laser particle size analyzer and Zeta potential.This paper study on the seperation of radioactive element,preparation of white carbon black and heat insulating materials.1. The pollution was first separated from the residue by the process including ball milling the zirconium silicon residue with water to prepare slurry, then dispersing polyethyleneglycol into the slurry by magnetic stirring, and then separating the pollution by centrifugal separation. TheXPS and XRD test results of the sample showed that some metal ions including radioactive elements were removed.2.The white carbon black was prepared by direct neutralization. The process include that ball milling the zirconium silicon residue with water to prepare slurry, mixing dispersant with the slurry by ultrasonic disperse for 10 minute and then stirring at 80 o C for 15 minute, adjusting pH value by sodium hydrate, adding surfactant into the slurry and magnetic strring at 80 oC for 30 minute at last. The experiment results indicated that the optimum process conditions were that ball milling the residue for 12 hour,the ratio of water to solid was 4:1,pH was 2.18,the volume of surfactant was 4 ml. The silicon dioxide content of white carbon black is 90.73 %,pH value is 5.96, DBP oil absorption value is 2.78 ml, which reach to the standard HG/T3061 and ISO5794-1.3. Two kinds of heat inlulating materials including xonotlited and magnesium silicate hydroxide were prepared by hydrothermal method.The process of xonotlite was that washing zirconium silicon residue first, then adjusting pH value to 7 and adding hydrated lime, after mixing uniformly, the mixture was loading into reactor at last to react at different temperature for different time. The samples were characterized by XRD,TEM, SEM, IR, etc. to study the effect of temperature and the ratio of lime hydrate on synthesized products. The results shows that fibrous xonotlite were synthesized at 240?water both by washing method and calcium hydroxide washing method.The process of hydroxyl magnesium silicate included Stirring zirconium silicon residue, magnesium oxide and distilled water evenly in the reaction kettle, then adjusting pH value to 13 by sodium hydrate,hydrothermal reacting at 220? for 6 hour. The solid samples were washed by water untill the pH value was 8 and then dry at 80? for 6 h.
