Hot melt adhesive (HMA) is one of the types of adhesives developed rapidly in recent years. Compared with other adhesives, HMA has incomparable advantages and widely applications. But with the quality of products having become increasingly demanding, there are still weaknesses in certain key technologies. Short shelf life and unstable quality are the urgent problems to be solved. The influence of different kinds of tackifying resin for SIS HMA properties were studied firstly in this paper. The result was such that overall performance of HMA prepared by rosin resins better than petroleum resins, but when the petroleum resins were hydrogenation or copolymerization modified, the performance improved. And the manufacturer was also an important factor to affecting the performance of HMA. The influence of the amount of different types of tackifying resins for SIS HMA properties were studied secondly in this paper. The melt viscosity of HMA increased as the content of rosin resins increased and then decreased, and declined as the content of petroleum resin increased and then rose. The softening point of HMA declined as the content of rosin resins increased and then decreased, and increased as the content of C5 petroleum resin increased and C5/C9 copolymer petroleum resin decreased. The ball tack weakened as the content of tackifying resins increased, and 180° peel strength strengthened as the content of tackifying resins increased and then weakened.Secondly, we studied the amount of elastomer SIS and parameter index of SIS and SBS for its HMA properties. With the increase of the amount of SIS, the softening point, melt viscosity and ball tack showed a increasing trend. But 180° peel strength showed fluctuation as the content of SIS, and the overall performance reached its maximum when the SIS content was 30%. The softening point, melt viscosity, ball tack and 180° peel strength decreased with the increase of the block ratio of the elastomer, and the overall performance of SBS HMA was not as good as SIS. When the double block segment content increased in a certain range, SIS HMA softening point and melt viscosity decreased, and ball tack no obvious change, and 180° peel strength was first increased and then decreased. The relative molecular weight, softening point, melt viscosity and 180° peel strength of the star SIS were higher than that of the linear SIS under the base of the block ratio.According to the requirement of normal structural adhesive performance of paper diapers, we selected the appropriate elastomers and tackifying resins based on the fundamental study of the main factors which affect the properties of HMA. Through continuous optimization on the properties of HMA, we developed normal structure adhesive for diapers that melt viscosity(160?) was 0.998 Pa·s, softening point was 77.4?,180° peel strength was 6.50 N·cm-1,ball tack was 5# and holding power was greater than 48 h.
