The pharmaceutical technology is complex and dangerous, the investigation of the explosion characteristics of medicinal powders is very necessary and urgent as the growing dust explosion in pharmaceutical enterprises. In this study, the characteristic parameters of explosion of Florfenicol, Tilmicosin and mixtures of Florfenicol/Tilmicosin at ratios of 2:1, 1:1,1:2 and 1:4 were measured and their characteristics of explosion were analyzed by the physico-chemical properties, which may make a sense for preventing the explosion of drug dusts. Specific research contents and results are as follows:(1) The characteristic parameters of explosion for the pure powder of Florfenicol and Tilmicosin were measured. The results demonstrate that for the Florfenicol powder and Tilmicosin powder, whose minimum ignition energy (MIE) are 53.4 mJ and 13.2 mJ, the maximum explosion pressure (Pmax)are 0.7 MPa and 0.9 MPa, the maximum rate of pressure ((dP/dt)max) are 42.77 MPa·s-1 and 96 MPa·s-1, the explosion indexes (Kst) are 11.61 MPa·m·s-1 and 26 MPa·ms-1, the lower explosion limits (LEL) are 100 g/m3 and 20 g/m3, the minimum ignition temperature (MIT-L) are>400℃ and 300℃, respectively. Compared to the two pure powders, the explosivity of Tilmicosin is much stronger than the Florfenicol powder.(2) The MIEs of mixtures of Florfenicol/Tilmicosin at ratios of 2:1,1:1,1:2 and 1:4 are 53.4,46.5,36.5 and 24.1 mJ, respectively. Therefore, the MIE of the 1:4 mixture is the lowest among the mixtures and the Florfenicol powder is more likely to have an antagonistic effect on the explosion of Tilmicosin in the mixtures.(3) The characteristics of explosion are related to the composition particle size, specific surface area, morphology, thermal characteristics and burning velocity of the dust. The analysis show that the smaller particle size, the greater specific surface area and the smaller absorption heat energy of the dust, the stronger combustion and explosion of the dust will be. In addition, the agglomeration of the dust can weaken the explosion. Finally, the PIVs show that the faster of the burning velocity, the combustibility of the dusts will be more intense. Therefore, the single dust of Tilmicosin is seen as the dust most at risk of combustion and explosion among the measured dust above.(4) The ignition energies of all the tested powders reach the minimum at the mass of 500 mg, while the explosion pressure and the rate of pressure for the Florfenicol and Tilmicosin get the maximum at the concentrations of 750 g/m3 and 500 g/m3.
