With the development of economic, the demand for energy is increasing sharply and the demand for traditional fossil is also increasing rapidly. Non renewable fossil energy is facing the crisis of exhaustion, which leads to the urgent need for the development of new energy sources to replace the traditional fossil energy sources. Because of its abundant resources and its small environmental pollution, the biomass energy was regarded as the fourth major industrial energy following coal, natural gas and oil. Biomass pyrolysis and gasification is one of the most effective methods to utilize biomass energy. But, the tar which was produced in pyrolysis gasification process has serious harm, and it will restricts the application of biomass gasification technology. Catalytic pyrolysis is considered as one of the most effective methods to remove tar. In this paper, the removal of tar by nickel based catalyst was researched.(1) A fixed bed reactor for catalytic cracking of tar was successfully was built, and the stability of the reactor device was also carried out. The detection method and calculation method of catalytic cracking of toluene were constructed.(2) Zeolites have been widely used in the study of the pyrolysis of organic compounds because of their controllable pore structure, surface acidity and good thermal stability. A series of nickel supported zeolite catalysts were prepared, and their physical characterization and catalytic activity were characterized. In this study, when the reaction temperature was 923 K, the toluene feed rate was 3 mL·h-1, S/C was 3.0, Ni content was 11 wt.% and the mass of catalyst was 0.5 g, the conversion of toluene reached 92%. And the Catalysts showed good stability with the presence of auxiliary.(3) Based on the phenomenon that the strong force between metal and support can restrain the agglomeration of metal, we have prepared the Ni/SO2P catalyst. The controlled adjustment of the particle size and the load capacity showed good catalytic activity, and solved the problem of carbon deposition during the process of toluene steam reforming. The TPR show that the strong interaction between metal and support, so that it has good catalytic activity and stability. The conversion was more than 90% in 11 h.
