Geopolymer-based thermal insulation material was prepared by using geopolymer, polystyrene foam and starch form as raw materials. The preparition and the proporties of the thermal insulation material was studied. The apparent density, folding strength, water absorption and thermal insulation of the thermal insulation materials were investigated. Moreover, the thermodegradation of starch form and polystyrene foam was also studied by thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry method. The experimental results were showed as fellows: the apparent density of the polystyrene foam composite material was between 0.79g/cm3 and 1.53 g/cm3, the folding strength was between 3.96 Mpa and 1.82 Mpa, and the water absorption was between 7.2% and 4.8%.What's more, the thermal conductivity coefficient of the composites was decressed from 1.99 W/m?K to 1.68 W/m?K, when the addtition of polystyrene foam was 2.3 % compared to pure geopolymer. The apparent density of the starch foam composite material was between 1.01g/cm3 and1.78g/cm3, the folding strength was between 1.35 Mpa and 2.81 Mpa, and the water absorption was between 0.67% and 20.5%. Further more, the thermal conductivity coefficient of the composites was decressed from 1.99 W/m?K to 1.46 W/m?K, when the addition of starch foam was 7.5 percent compared to pure geopolymer. The thermodegradation property of stach?St?, Mg?OH?2 modified stach?Mst? and expand Polystyrene?EPS? was investigated by means of thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry method. The mass loss and evolving rate of the gaseous products during pyrolysis of starch Mst and EPS were also measured. The results showed that the amount of the organic substances released from the EPS was the most of all. The pyrolysis behavior of stach, Mst, EPS was analyzed by coupled TG-MS analyzer. The major gas species of pyrolysis, H2 O, CH4, CO2, were monitored with mass spectrometry and the trend of CH4, CO2 released curve is similar. In the process of the pyrolysis of EPS, the amount of methylbenzene and CO2 was the highest in the nitrogen atmosphere, and the amount of toluene was the highest in the nitrogen atmosphere.
