Melt-grafting and pre-radiated grafting of Maleic Anhydride(MAH) onto Polypropylene(PP) have been compared in this paper. FTIR spectra confirmed that MAH had been grafted onto PP. The factors that affect the graft degree were researched by chemical titration. The XPS spectra showed distinct carbon(C1s 285 eV), representing the major constituents of the samples. Crystalline structure was changed after raditional,crystallinity degree was determined by DSC and WAXD. The study showed that the maximum grafting degree of pre-radiated grafting and melt-grafting of MAH onto PP were0.67% and 0.53%, respectively. Compared with the melt-grafting, pre-radiated grafting was relatively easier to operate and made higher graft degree products.Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene(PP-g-MAH) was prepared by radiated graft.The best performance of polypropylene/polyamide 6(PP/PA6) blends was found via adding various parts of PP-g-MAH. From the scanning electron microscopy image, we can see that binary PP/PA6 blends showed the PA6 dispersed phase in PP matrix exhibited uneven dispersion, adding 4wt% PP-g-MAH, PA6 particle size was significantly smaller and dispersion better in the matrix. Adding 6wt% PP-g-MAH, the impact strength was24.90kJ/m, which increased 20.46% compared to the original material. The effect of the compatibilizer on crystallization was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),PP-g-PA6 would inhibit the regularity of the PA6 molecular chains, resulting in reduced crystallinity; The thermal stability of the materials was analyzed via TG analysis, we explored the relationship between thermal stability and crystallization. The change of vitrification transition temperature Tg and storage modulus of PP/PA6 alloy was characterized by the DMA. Adding 6wt% PP-g-MAH, the storage modulus was highest,which was corresponded to impact properties.EPDM-g-MAH was prepared via solution graft. In order to obtain the better overall performance materials, we added EPDM-g-MAH to PP/PA6 blends, which can not only increase the system compatibility, but also improve PP / PA6 blends toughness. Adding10wt% EPDM-g-MAH, the impact strength of the blends improved 49.86%.
