As is known to all, polypropylene and polystyrene ether are two widely used thermoplastic plastics. Polypropylene has a low price, relatively small proportion,excellent chemical stability as well as many other advantages, Due to its mechanical properties and thermal properties far less than engineering plastics which limit its use in high requirements engineering structures, and compatibility of polypropylene is not good because of its nonpolar and crystalline, which bring difficulty for its application. Instead as engineering plastics PPO,it has high heat resistance, greater rigidity, high strength as well as excellent electrical performance, however, its shortcomings are the high processing temperatures and toughness. So the preparation of new polymeric materials with both advantages have a certain application value and practical significance.Firstly, we use electron accelerator pre irradiation PP molecules to improve its nonpolar defects in air atmosphere. Then we synthesize PP-g-PS graft copolymer, which grafted polystyrene onto PP molecule by using the suspension graft polymerization techniques. By optimizing the experimental conditions, the preparation of the graft rate of15% PP-g- PS graft copolymer. And we systematic study the chemical structure and properties of the graft copolymer by using FTIR, 1H-NMR, DSC as well as SEM.Then, respectively, the preparation of the PPO/PP-g-PS binary blend system and PPO/PP-g-PS/PP ternary blending system. Through the study of thermal properties,mechanical properties and morphology, we know that PPO/PP-g-PS blend melt temperature rise gradually and compatibility is getting better and better with the increase of graft copolymer content in binary blend system. Blending system with the increase of graft copolymer, the tensile strength, bending strength and hardness were slightly down. PPO toughness improved significantly after add the graft copolymer. The thermal deformation temperature and vicat softening point temperature of the blends have obvious decline by thermal properties of the test, which shows its processability is improved. In the ternary blends, we know that blends achive the purpose of combining the performance advantages of PP and PPO by the change trend of three kinds of blending system performance. PPO improve the mechanical and thermal strength of PP, and PP improved toughness as well as its processing temperature of PPO.
