Reciprocating gas compressor is the important equipment in petrochemical industry, plays a decisive role in the development of petrochemical industry. But As real production implementing, piston rod sealing of domestic-made compressor is not stable as anticipation, the sealing is easily failure and often be with over- leakage happened, frequent shutdown evidently influence normal production. Besides, the leakage of gas could cause safety issue. Thus, studying piston rod sealing technology and increasing its stability is with Engineering-Economic value in certain degree.Associating with technology study of the piston rod both from domestic and abroad, this paper analysis piston rod sealing structure and principle of reciprocating compressor, combining common failure phenomenon of sealing to study failure modes and mechanism both of piston rod and packing rings; Through test to study material composition and surface hardness of piston rod as well as their influence in sealing performance contribution; Study composition material of packing ring and the relationship between properties and its wear resistance capability; Establishing the calculation model, compute friction heat in the sealing cavity, heat generation rate and the convective heat transfer coefficient of the old and the new, two different cooling system. Using Ansys for temperature simulation in sealing system, describe that the improved cooling structure can reduce the peak temperature, improving the packing ring wear life. Through the simulation under different sealing conditions to output the corresponding temperature distribution and the relationship between temperature and these conditions; Developing a testing device to check the temperature of the friction pair and the abrasion of them base on different conditions including Compressor Rotation Speed, Sealing Pressure and Velocity of flow of cooling water. Implementing an accelerated testing to measure the seal-pair's abrasion-depth, these could validate the study of this paper in certain degree.
