Reciprocating compressor is a key equipment of petrochemical industry and its operating cycle length directly affect the enterprise production efficiency,on the safe production of petrochemical products.As a result,reciprocating compressor detection is more and more important,and the piston rod fracture is one of the main causes of reciprocating compressor operation accident.The piston rod sudden failure will bring a great threat petrochemical production.Based on the piston rod fracture theory,this paper,which is based on the piston rod fracture example,and presented causes analysis of the piston rod fracture in details.The experimental results demonstrated that the reciprocating compressor stable and long term operation is significant.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)This paper presented the review of the research work on piston and rod fatigue fracture mechanism and the state of the art of receiprocating compressors are presented.The key issue for receiprocating compressors are indicated them.The effective prevention and measures the piston rod fracture such as nondestructive testing measures are presented,and the influence factorson process performance such as heat treatment on the piston rod no are them indicated.(2)Studies on piston rod fracture failure causes are conducted based on the failure analysis procedures and key features analysis in detail.In particular,the stress,dimension,surface condition,load frequency,heat treatment process,material properties,average stress and load type of piston rod fracture failure are analyed in detail.(3)Structure characteristics of the reciprocating compressor are discussed including structure categories,cycle patterns,operation condition and process parameters.(4)Comprehensive analysis was carried out with the combinations of case studies of piston rod failure analysis of the special compressor served in specialized petrochemical plant.Test and inspections were conducted including macroscopic morphology,microscopic morphology,chemical composition,mechanical properties,impact toughness,roughness and so on.Finally it is concluded that the roughness of the piston rod is higer which is the important cause of the cracks of the piston rod.And piston rod manufacturing and heat treatment process parameters in theprocess of control is of great impact on the life of the piston rod.(5)Based on summarized analysis on the test results,it is concluded that to prevent fracture of the piston rod,specific measures should be taken to asper piston rod fracture cases.To ensure the safety of the reciprocating compressor,the purpose of running smoothly.On the basis of the research on the piston rod fracture failure analysis the proposal,has been put forwarded to provide reference for reciprocating compressor operation.
