Polyamide fibers exhibits an excellent thermal stability, Wear resistance, superior mechanical property, and chemical inertness. They are widely used as an excellent reinforcement material for the advanced polymer composites such as clothing, Home textiles, rubber goods, ropes, and so forth. However, the Polyamide fibers fiber-reinorced composites show poor interfacial adhesion between the Polyamide fibers and matrix resin, due to the low surface energy and chemically inert surface of the fiber. Therefore, surface modification of Polyamide fibers is considerably urgent and necessary to obtain high performance Polyamide fibers/epoxy composites from effective interfacial interaction. In this paper we used a new method complexation to treat Polyamide fibers fiber.Firstly, in this study we used calcium chloride?CaCl2? to treat Polyamide fibers. We studied the effect of different solvent?water and ethanol? on Polyamide fibers fiber surface modification. The result of scanning electron microscope showed that the ethanol solution was better than water solution. So we chosed ethanol as the solvent.Secondly, we studied the mechanism between Ca Cl2 and Polyamide fibers. The possible changes of the chemical structure of Polyamide fibers were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectrum?FTIR?. The crystalline state of Polyamide fibers was determined by X-ray diffraction instrument?XRD?. The surface morphology of Polyamide fibers were analyzed by Scanning electron microscope?SEM?. It was found that the complexation was happened between CaCl2 and Polyamide fibers. Complexation had great influence on the structure and properties of Polyamide fibers. The amino-groups of Polyamide fibers were freed and the contents of-C-N- increased. The changes can improve the surface roughness of Polyamide fibers. This can increase the adhesive of Polyamide fibers/epoxy composites.Thirdly, from the interlaminar shear strength?ILSS? of Polyamide fibers/epoxy composites and mechanical properties values, it can be concluded that treatment with 5 wt% CaCl2 is the optimum complexation condition for Polyamide 66 fibers, however, treatment with 3 wt% CaCl2 is the optimum complexation condition for Polyamide 6 fibers.Forthly, we did a preliminary study on the adhersion between Polyamide fibers and natural rubber. After complexation treatment, the tear strength and stress at 300% of Polyamide fibers/natural rubber composites increased significantly with the increasing of CaCl2 treatment time. The interfacial adhesion between Polyamide fibers fiber and natural rubber was increased due to the grooves and increased specific surface area.
