The concept of “Heat Pipe Grinding Wheel” is a combination of heat pipe-the high efficiency heat conduction element and grinding wheel-a commonly used grinding tool. Under the idea of "green manufacturing", it's a milestone innovation in the history of the high efficiency grinding technology. In the use of the annular heat pipe inside the grinding wheel, the heat pipe grinding wheel can effectively reduce the temperature of the grinding zone, protect the workpiece from being burned, keep the grinding wheel from being excessively worn, reduce the use of coolant, reduce environment pollution and lower the grinding cost. The application of the heat pipe grinding wheel technology in the high efficiency grinding of the hard-to-cut material is demonstrated to be feasible by current research. However, the stability of its working performance is still to be improved due to the lack of depth of theoretical study. The working performance of the heat pipe grinding wheel is determined by the structure of the heat pipe working chamber, the amount of the working medium, the grinding speed and the heat source power of the grinding zone. In this paper, the heat transfer performance experiment and grinding experiment of the heat pipe grinding wheel are designed and carried out, in order to investigate the effect of the factors mentioned above on its performance, improve its working stability and summarize the designing method and procedures of the heat pipe grinding wheel which is under specific grinding conditions. Around this idea, the main research work of this paper are as follows:(1)Analyze and summarize the process characteristics of the GH4169 superalloy, and determine the grinding process method of the GH4169 superalloy. Additionally, put forward the designing basis and method of the heat pipe grinding wheel that meets the requirement of the grinding method;(2)Design and manufacture a detachable heat pipe grinding wheel with a variable filling rate, to carry out a heat transfer experiment. Obtain a suitable structure and filling rate for the heat pipe grinding wheel according to the experimental result;(3)Design and carry out a grinding experiment of the GH4169 superalloy using the heat pipe grinding wheel mentioned in(2), to synthetically evaluate the working performance of the heat pipe grinding wheel;(4)Summarize the designing method and procedures of the heat pipe grinding wheel which is under specific grinding conditions.
