The majority of Chinese coal mines are facing the threat from coal spontaneous combustion. It has caused a lot of casualties and economic losses.In order to meet the need of the fire prevention and extinguishing in coal mine, a new kind of technology of fire prevention with inorganic gelatinization foam is developed in this paper. The inorganic gelatinization foam is synthesized with gelatinizing agent, water-based foam, water and additives by certain process. This technology can be used not only to seal the mined-out area or crack, but also to extinguish the fire disaster in coal mine. The compositions of the inorganic gelatinization foam and the compressive strength and setting time of the materials which are influenced by the radio between different compositions were tested, studied and optimized in the paper. Through the experiments show that if the gelatinizing agents in the inorganic gelatinization foam were composed of 48% ordinary Portland cement, 32% quick hardening gelatinizer and 20% fly ash, the materials will get higher compressive strength and shorter setting time. When the water-cement ratio is 0.4 with0.2% water reducer in it, the bubble of the gelatinization foam will be preferably and the compressive strength will be higher. It is in the best performance of the inorganic gelatinization foam materials when the expansion radio of the water-based foam is 15. The mixing amount of foam can be adjusted according to actual needs. When the foam is about ten times the size of the material slurry, the 28 d compressive strength of materials can reach0.91 Mpa, it can satisfy the need of seals in the coal mine.In addition, the paper does research into the materials' apparent viscosity, rheological behavior, seepage, cooling ability and the effect of fire suppression. The experimental results show that the materials slurry is a kind of non-newtonian fluid, with the characteristics of a shear thinning and yield stress. Materials slurry permeates in loose coal will be influenced by the seepage pressure and the poriness of medium.At the end, the filling seals test in a coal mine shows the excellence of the technology of fire prevention with the inorganic gelatinization foam, including fast filling, airtightness, low cost, high automation, and economical.
