The rapier wheel which is a fast reciprocating rotating part in the weft insertion mechanism of rapier loom,is an important part of the power consumption of rapier loom.The rapier wheel drives rapier head and rapier tap doing straight line movement,The load characteristics of which directly affect the structure design of the rapier.Complex dynamic load will cause the deformation of the rapier wheel,that directly affects the service life of the rapier tap,affects the normal transfer of weft;The load on each gear of the rapier wheel is so large,that causes the abrasion of the rapier wheel teeth too big,even the broken teeth.The moment of inertia and mass of the rapier wheel account for a larger proportion of the equivalent moment of inertia of the loom spindle,affecting the weft insertion speed much,so high speed loom requires that the rapier wheel own small mass,large enough strength and stiffness.The main research object of this paper is the rapier wheel of a 5.4m width rapier loom in China,and the following research was carried out:(1)Study on movement characteristics of the rapier wheel: ADAMS simulation model was established to get the load changing rule of the rapier wheel on the basis of previous research on weft insertion mechanism kinematics.(2)Study on load characteristics of each tooth of the rapier wheel: According to the movement rule of rapier tap,the studied was carried out on the load variation law on each tooth of the rapier wheel,the work rules of each tooth in a work cycle of the spindle,the ultimate load of each tooth,the frequency of the load mutation and the amplitude of the load change,etc.The tooth number which was easy to wear or break was obtained by comparing the load condition of each tooth.Suggestions was provided for the reasonable use of the rapier wheel.(3)The optimization of the Structure and assembly position of the rapier wheel: The finite element model was established.The static analysis of which was carried out by Workbench software,the stress and deformation distribution of the rapier wheel with different thickness or reinforcement structure were obtained.A rapier wheel that met strength requirements and lighter was selected preferably.The influence of initial assembly position and the deformation of the rapier wheel was discussed.(4)The modal research on the rapier wheel: Research on the boundary conditions of the elastic support,the free support or the fixed support.The constraint modal of the rapier wheel under different constraint conditions by finite element software simulation was calculated,and the reasonable way of constraints was verified by using experimental modal.(5)Application of research results: In view of the several rapier wheels commonly used on the market at present,the first 10 modes which were obtained by using experimental modal or the simulation modal analysis.Reference was provided for the selection of the working environment of rapier wheel.
