Prevent The Spontaneous Ignition Of Ferrous Sulfide In Light Oil Tanks

In recent years,with the deterioration of crude oil becoming more and more serious,refineries have to process more high sulfur crude oil than before.And the extend of the corrosion of oil tanks is also being aggravated.According to the characteristics of petroleum processing technology,sulfur is usually being in the middle of light oil products.Therefore,the problems of sulfur corrosion on intermediate light oil tanks and dirty light oil tanks are particularly serious,and the ferrous sulfide as the corrosion product being accumulatd gradually in tanks.The risk of ferrous sulfide self-ignition accidents is also greatly increased.However,processing high-sulfur crude oil has become a huge test for production safety of refineries.This paper mainly explain the formation of ferrous sulfide due to sulfur corrosion in light oil tanks and the principle of spontaneous combustion and oxidation of ferrous sulfide.Preventing the spontaneous combustion of ferrous sulfide in light oil tanks can follow these aspects: reducing the formation of ferrous sulfide in the tank by doing tank internal corrosion,preventing the spontaneous combustion of ferrous sulfide by using nitrogen seal technology and passivation cleaning technology.According to the actual situation of Sinopec Jingmen Company and the above three aspects,this paper provides some measures to solve the problems that the effects of the internal corrosion and the nitrogen seal of light oil tank are not good.And cleaning the light oil tank by using passivation cleaning technology,which can prevent the spontaneous combustion of ferrous sulfide,has achieved good effect in practical application.
