Research On The Design Of The Ancient Bearing Tool From The Contemporary Perspective

Bearing tool has always been to match people’s way of life since ancient times.Great changes the ancient bearing tool had experienced were also to adapt to the way of human life.After the historical changes and social changes,many new types have emerged when developed to the modern times.The development of science and technology has provided more materials and technology for the bearing tool and it has presented a development trend of diversification and individuation.There are many types of bearing tool contemporarily.In this paper,the "new Chinese style" bearing tool which came down in one continuous line and could present its continuity is studied to better inherit the design essence of ancient Chinese bearing tools,as well as to inspire young designers not to forget the root and inherit and carry forward the traditional Chinese culture.Although restricted by the political,economic,cultural and other aspects of the time,the ancient bearing tools still showed its value of the times,not only meeting the basic needs of the ancients but also bringing them spiritual enjoyment.The innovation of the contemporary "new Chinese style" bearing tool should follow the basic principles of design with users’ sensory experience as the starting point,apply the traditional Chinese culture elements extracted into the design of the "new Chinese style" bearing tool and design novel bearing tool with traditional meaning.In this paper,the research on the bearing tool is not the most comprehensive,hoping to cause sympathetic response among scholars at home and abroad who study this kind of topic.The whole thesis could be divided into three parts:In the first part,the ancient Chinese bearing tools are analyzed and the historical development process of ancient bearing tools is summarized.Elements of the bearing tool of type,function,material selection,structure and decoration are analyzed specifically.In the second part,the contemporary "new Chinese style" bearing tool isintroduced.The structure of this chapter is consistent with that of the chapter of ancient bearing tools,in which the definition of the name,the development process,types and functions,as well as various design elements are discussed with examples.The products of these two historical periods are then compared.In the third part,a new method of design and innovation is proposed and some deficiencies in the design of contemporary "new Chinese style" bearing tools are summarized.On this basis,how to develop this kind of bearing tool in the future is explored.In support of these theories,a "new Chinese type" long narrow table is designed and a brief description is given.
