Acylhydrazone is a kind of Schiff base which contains O,N and other donor atoms in its structure.It is readily to coordinate to transition metal ions,and give complexes with versatile structures.Among the complexes,vanadium complexes derived from acylhydrazones showed interesting biological activities,including insulin-like activity,anti-bacterial,anti-inflammatory activity.In the present work,maltol ligands were used to prepare vanadium complexes with potential insulin-like activity.And,acetohydroxamate ligands were used to prepare vanadium complexes with potential urease inhibitory activity.In order to enrich the structure and properties of acylhydrazone vanadium complexes,8-hydroxyquinoline,which is a similar bidentate ligand as maltol or acetohydroxamate ligands,was used as a secondary ligands to prepare vanadium complexes with potential biological activities.According to a number of literatures,we synthesized 19 new vanadium complexes.All of the complexes were characterized by X-ray single crystal determination,infrared spectra,UV-Vis spectra,and thermal analysis.In addition,insulin-like activity and urease inhibitory activity of the complexes were studied.The paper including five sections:1.Four acylhydrazone complexes of vanadium with methyl maltol ancillary ligands have been synthesized and characterized.2.Six acylhydrazone complexes of vanadium with ethyl maltol ancillary ligands have been synthesized and characterized.3.Five acylhydrazone complexes of vanadium with 8-hydroxyquinoline ancillary ligands have been synthesized.4.Four acylhydrazone complexes of vanadium with acetohydroxamic acid and benzohydroxamic acid ancillary ligands have been synthesized and characterized.5.Insulin-like activity and urease inhibitory activity of some vanadium complexes are presented.Three of the complexes have good insulin-like activity,and one complex show strong urease inhibition.
