With increasing attention has been focused on the operation of wastewater treatment plants,many wastewater treatment plants were recently built in China, but most of them were small and medium sized plants.The influent of large wastewater treatment plant is steady, because of the long pipeline and large quantities of water.There are two situation should be considered : the condition of drought and rain.However, the influent of small and medium sized wastewater treatment plants is tremendous fluctuated due to the pipe network is imperfect.At present, shock of the influent water has not clearly defined,few study has focused on the shock and recovery. This study focused on the characteristic of wastewater treatment process under water quality shock, and verified the related theory. The mine results of the current research are as follows:1? By recording the respiration data of sewage treatment plants in Xi'an under steady condition,it is manifested that,when the proportion of endogenous respiration of activated sludge is between 8% and 16%,the sludge is stable, when it is lower than 8% or higher than 16% the sludge is unstable.2?Two kinds of sludge from landfill leachate wastewater treatment plants and municipal wastewater treatment plants were taken tostudy the characteristics of respiration of active sludge and the quantitative characterization under shock.When OUR was used to stand for the activity of sludge, it is needed to pay attention to the state of sludge and there might be problem while using OUR to represent the activity of sludge.When sludge was subjected to shock the quasi endogenous respiration ratio will rise.After the adaption will be restored to the normal level,it could be used for early warning of water shock.3?The shocking of water is more traumatic, the shorter their quasi endogenous respiration ratio rise time,it could be employed as an indicator of shock effect and the length of recovery period of quasi endogenous respiration ratio to the original value could well indicate the adaptability of sludge to new substrate.4?When sludge was shocked by easily biodegradable influent,it will change from particulate to the loose structure floc, and the shock of landfill leachate will force the floc back to particulate..5?Through verification in the actual sewage treatment plant,the result show that when great changes had taken place in the influent water,the quasi endogenous respiration ratio rose as well.
