With the development of CNC machine tools towards high precision, the demand to precision of the machine tools have become higher and higher. The method which improving the technology of the design, manufacture and assembly of machine tools to reduce the errors costs high and has a long development cycle. Machine tool error compensation technology is a new method, which has the advantage of low cost and easy to realize, to compensate the original error of the machine tool by creating a new error. In the case of long-term use of the machine tool and precision of the machine tool is reduced, the error compensation technology can realize the improvement of the precision of the machine tool. Based on three axis vertical machining center as a platform, this paper studies the application of error compensation technology of machine tool based on central HNC-8 system.The main research contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The method to compensate geometric error and screw thermal expansion error of each moving axis and the control principle of error compensation technology of machine based on HNC-8 system were analyzed. And the input of error compensation parameters was related.(2) The platform of machine thermal error measurement system was designed and built. Real-time temperature acquisition of the machine moving axis and the bed was realized. Real-time display of temperature information of machine tool in the interface of the NC system was realized.(3) The error measuring technology based on the API Laser Interferometer and the error compensation technology based on HNC-8 system were efficiently implemented to measure and compensate the machine error, and the position precision of the machining center is evaluated.(4) The influence of thermal factors on the geometric errors of the machine tool was researched and analyzed. Through the analysis of the X axis of the thermal error data, it was found that geometric error was effected in varying degrees with thermal factors. Thermal factors has the greatest impact on the positioning error and pitch error of mobile axis, Thermal factor had almost no influence on yaw error angle and roll angle error and vertical straightness error. The fluctuation trend of horizontal straightness error tends to be stable with the increase of temperature.(5) It is proved that the error compensation technology based on HNC-8 system has a good practical application to machining center error, and the precision of the machine tool is improved greatly.
