Ammonium chloride,as one of the by-products of Hou's process for soda manufacture, has a large production but low utilization each year.In order to promote the development of soda ash and chlor-alkali industry of our country,it is significant to research the technology of ammonium chloride decomposition, which is also beneficial to environment and recycling economy. In this paper, the key techniques of decomposition of ammonium chloride were studied. Moreover, the technology of decomposition of ammonium chloride in the existence of organic amine were investigated. We also compared the effects of four kinds of organic amine(trihexylamie,tris(2-ethylhexyl)amine,trioctylamine and trilaurylamine)on the two processes of ammonium chloride decomposition and organic amine hydrochloride decomposition. In the process of decomposition of ammonium chloride into ammonia, reaction temperature, reaction time, the molar ratio of isoamyl alcohol and ammonium chloride in the feed, the molar ratio of organic amine and ammonium chloride in the feed, and the flow rate of nitrogen were compared among the four kinds of organic amine. The results show that trihexylamine has the advantages of shorter reaction time and higher yield of ammonia compared with the other organic amines. The yield of ammonia can reach 97.5%.In the process of decomposition of organic amine hydrochloride into hydrogen chloride,we studied reaction temperature, reaction time,non-polar organic solvent tetradecane and the flow rate of nitrogen of the four kinds of organic amine. The results show that trihexylamine hydrochloride has the advantages of shorter reaction time, lower flow rate of non-polar organic solvent and nitrogen, and higher yield of hydrogen chloride compared with the other organic amine hydrochloride. The yield of hydrogen chloride can reach 94.65%.In addition, the recycle of organic amine and organic amine hydrochloride, polar solvents and non-polar solvents were also investigated. The results show that organic amine and organic amine hydrochloride can be recycled.Furthermore, the stabilities of them are still satisfactory after recycling for five times. On the basis of calculation of materials balance, the loss rate of isoamyl alcohol which is a polar organic solventis about 9% in the process of decomposition of ammonium chloride into ammonia;while the loss rate of tetradecyl which is a non-polar organic solvent is within 0.7%in the process of decomposition of organic amine hydrochloride into hydrogen chloride.
