Engineering ceramics are compounds generally made of metal and nonmetal elements,with the Ionic and covalent bond as the main key,obtained by powder molding and sintering.Engineering ceramics at room temperature has significant features as high hardness,light weight and resistance to high temperature,wear,corrosion.They are widely used in various fields.For example,We use ceramics to make Cutting tools,temperature sensor,precision bearings,sealing elements,refractories and so on.Currently,it is the main means of processing of engineering ceramics by using diamond grinding wheel.But it is very difficult to control damage to the workpieces when manufacturing parts and high precision,complex parts especially difficult,limiting the wide application of engineering ceramics for these reasons.The purpose of research grinding ceramics is possible to improve grinding efficiency and reduce processing costs ensuring the quality of the parts.In this paper,study the alumina ceramic widely used based on orthogonal and single factor test.We analyze the impact of grinding parameters and material properties on the grinding force and specific grinding energy.In terms of plane grinding,grinding depth,feed rate of material grinding force and grinding ratio can be significantly affected and wheel speed has little effect.According to brittle material removal mechanism,alumina ceramic is removed mainly in the way of brittle fracture in grinding process and critical grinding depth is very small.Specimen surface mainly make up a series of shedding pits.During this paper,based on indentation fracture mechanics theory and research methods of cutting on the basis of approximate,building mathematical models of removal rate of alumina ceramic grinding on grinding parameters,wheel characteristics and material properties by certain assumptions.Considering the relationship between the grinding quality and the removal rate.It provides reference to improve the quality of the grinding process of hard and brittle materials and reduce processing costs.By using the Matlab software for regression analysis of test data,determining the coefficients of the model obtaining the formula of two wheel material removal under different grinding conditions.Through hypothesis testing,these models are highly significant.Finally,this theoretical model was experimentally verified.Theoretical model predictions and experimental values with good agreement and relative error is very small.The result verifies the practicality and effectiveness of the removal model and provides a theoretical basis on selecting reasonable parameters during grinding process of alumina ceramics.But also the experiment proves reasonableness of the assumptions.Analyzing the effects of grinding parameters on the removal,feed rate and depth have a great impact on the removal,consistenting with the theoretical model predictions.
